The Importance of Lighting in a Data Center


Usually, a manager or a project manager of a data center doesn't focus on the lighting.  


The lighting is considered as 5% of the total electrical load in a data center while it is considered as 20-40% in a normal commercial center.


 


However, to cool down the heat from the servers and the lights, there should be the additional air conditioning systems. An existing fluroscent or incandescent light spends 90% of the electrical energy as heat.

One of the reasons why a data center is so hot is that the the heat from the lights is enormous
  


 


A incandescent lamp spends 90% of its energy for heat. In contrast, the LED lights of LumiSpace spends its energy very little for heat.


 


It is very easy to change from the existing bulbs to the LED sheets or lamps.

LED lighting is especially suitable for data center lighting due to its low heat output. Low temperature LED lighting significantly reduce the tempearture in server rooms in a data center.


 


The replacement into the LED lights can reduce the total electrical load a lot not only by reducing the cooling cost but also by controlling the light intensity.


 


Also, it extends the replacement cycle of lights to reduce waste materials and greenhouse gases. In the rsult,  a big data center can reduce $100,000 per year by replacing into LED lights.
